Victoria United Recognizes Four Retiring Players June 6, 2009 At famed Royal Athletic Park today, Victoria United recognized four long-time players who have retired this year: Dave Gustar, Will Moore, Dean Anderson and Kevin Mennie. Dave and Dean were members of United's famous back line for 14 seasons each. Dave continues his involvement with Victoria United, serving as a Club Director. Dean is the last player to have played in 1994, United's first season in the Pacific Coast Soccer League. Kevin, the anchor of United's midfield for 13 seasons and co-Captain for many years, has also served as a Club Director. Will Moore played in the midfield for seven tremendous seasons, and served as a playing co-coach along with Kevin in the 2007 season. Dave, Will, Dean and Kevin are also long-time members of the VISL Division 1 Gorge FC, who this season were League Champions and Jackson Cup Champions, for the fifth straight year! Two weeks ago in Vancouver, they nearly won their fourth BCSA Provincial Open Men's Title, losing 1-0 to West Vancouver in the Province Cup Final. These outstanding players epitomize the standard of excellence and love for the game that has been the backbone of this organization. Victoria United FC is proud to honour these amazing players, and wishes them well in their (no doubt) ongoing soccer careers. |
