June 22, 2009 - By Larry Read

Langley, BC - The players of the Kamloops Heat U-21 soccer team delivered an extra Father's Day present. The Heat upped their record to 9 and 1 on the Pacific Coast Soccer League Women's Reserve Division season with a 1-0 win over the Fraser Valley Action at Willoughby Field in Langley (June 21).

The victory was the Heat's second straight shutout victory of the weekend. The lone goal came in the 75 th minute when Thompson Rivers University forward Cassie Drummond (Kamloops, BC) scored in her second straight match on a cross from Alanna Bekkering (U Vic, Kamloops, BC).

"This was one of our best games of the season," commented Manager David Lloyd as the Heat beat the Action for the second straight weekend (last weekend it was 3-0 Kamloops at Hillside Stadium). "The Action are a very physical and talented opponent. The entire team stepped up to the challange--especially our midfielders (Bronwyn Crawford, Abbey McAuley and Blair MacKay--all members of the TRU WolfPack). They controlled the midfield for long stretches of the match."

Lloyd also credited Bekkering for delivering a stellar performance at outside mid. "She made a number of dangerous runs: finally leading to the winning goal."

Shannen Meyer (TRU, Kamloops, BC) notched her second straight shutout.

"This win shows that our players are stepping up to the plate when needed," stated Heat coach Tom McManus. "I am very happy with the two wins this weekend and that Abbey, Bronwyn and Blair stepped up in the middle."

The Heat begin a three game homestand on Sunday (June 28) when they entertain Semiahamoo. Kick off time is 12:30 pm at Hillside Stadium.
