HEAT SOLIDIFY HOLD ON FIRST PLACE IN PCSL WOMENS RESERVE DIVISION June 14, 2009 - By Larry Read Kamloops, BC - The Kamloops Heat are proving to be a formidable force both on the road and at home. The Heat won for the fourth straight time on home turf, downing the Coquitlam Metro Ford Soccer Club Xtreme 3-1 at Hillside Stadium. The victory solidified the Heat's hold on first place in the Pacific Coast Soccer League's Women's Reserve Division. Kamloops is at 6 and 1. CFMSC falls to 4-3-1. Jessie Lebert (TRU, Kamloops, BC) opened the scoring 23 minutes into the first half when she found the twine from 20 yards out. Lebert capitalized on a drop pass from Lauren White (McMaster, Kamloops, BC). Plaing into the wind, the first goal came against the flow of play. Shannen Meyer (TRU, Kamloops, BC) was put back into the nets and made a couple of good saves as the Coquitlam team pressured the home side a lot in the first half. Late in the half had the chance to go up by two as Liebert failed to capitalize on a goalmouth pass from Kelli Chamberlain. (Queens, University) Leading 1-0 in the second half, Jackie Bekkering (Kamloops, BC) assisted on Lebert's second of the afternoon, 20 minutes into that final period. Three minutes later, Coquitlam made it 2-1 as they slid the ball under Meyer's lunge to the ball after a breakdown in communication at the back. Chamberlain restored the Heat's two goal advantage 13 minutes later on a great pass from Cassie Drummond (TRU, Kamloops, BC). Coach Eric Schweizer praised Lebert and Chamberlain's play and also gave credit to Maddie Reid (TRU, Kamloops, BC) at sweeper and Meyer in the nets. The Heat hit the road for games next weekend (June 20 and 21). They play the North Shore Girls Soccer Club on Saturday and then the Fraser Valley Action on Sunday. |
