HEAT TIE PINNACLES FOR FIRST DRAW OF THE SEASON
July 4, 2009 - By Larry Read
Kamloops, BC - July 4th was not a memorable day for members of the Kamloops Heat women's soccer team. The American Independence day saw Kamloops earn their first draw of the Pacific Coast Soccer League's Women's Reserve Division season. They drew the visiting Penticton Pinnacles 2-2 which meant the Heat could not sew up first place.
"Whether it was the 32 degree temperature or the fact we didn't come out strong, it was not one of our stronger showings,"stated Heat manager David Lloyd as Kamloops fell to 10-1-1 on the year. "Penticton seemed especially determined."
Penticton moves to 6-2-3 on the year.
Kamloops got both their markers in the second half. TRU WolfPack midfielder Bronwyn Crawford (Kamloops, BC) scored on a penalty kick after a Penticton player was called for a hand ball. The second goal came when Alanna Bekkering (U Vic,Kamloops,BC) scored when the Pinnacle keeper bobbled the ball.
The Heat are the summer time workout program for the WolfPack, and two of their prospects played in the contest. Taryn McDougall (keeper, Langley, BC) played in the nets. Nikki Swanson (defender, Trail, BC) played a half on the back line.
"We did havea few nice chances from Kelli (Chamberlain, forward, Queens University) and Cassie (Drummond, forward, TRU, Kamloops, BC)."said Lloyd. "We just couldnt get the go ahead goal."
The Heat close out a three game homestand Saturday July 11 th at Hillside Stadium against the North Shore Girls Soccer Club. Kick off is 2:30 pm
