HEAT LOOK TO EXTEND WINNING STREAK TO 6 WITH VICTORY OVER PINNACLES

July 3, 2009 - By Larry Read

Kamloops, BC - The Kamloops Heat have a sixth straight victory in their sights as they take to the field this weekend (July 4) in the Pacific Coast Soccer League women’s reserve division.   With the season winding down, the first place Heat (10-1) meet up with a Pinnacles club vying for second and third spot.   Penticton enters the weekend with a 6-2-2 record, 10 points behind the first place Heat and two points back of second place Coquitlam Metro Ford Xtreme.

This will be the second meeting of the season between the two sides.  On May 30 th,  Kamloops went to the South Okanagan and beat the Pinnacles 2-1 with Kelli Chamberlain (Queens University) getting both of the Heat markers.  Chamberlain leads the PCSL women’s reserve division in goals with 12.

“If we can win this game that will sew up first place,” says Heat and TRU WolfPack head coach Tom McManus. “ This will be a very tough match as Penticton are a very good team.  From what I know of them they are solid defensively so we will have to try to open them up.”

The Pinnacles have two of the top scorers in the league themselves with Jana Yates potting 8 goals and Nicole Fraser having seven goals thus far.  Penticton’s hottest player could be Casey Conway. She has three goals in her last two matches including a pair in a 3-0 victory over Semihamoo FC last weekend (June 27).
“They are all good strong attackers but I think we have the best attackers in the league and match that up with our strong defenders, it will be very good. “ he says. “ I think that it is going to be a very exciting game. “

The sides are two of the best defensive minded teams in the league.  Kamloops has given up only five goals all season.  That is the best of any time in the PCSL.  Penticton is tied for second with seven.
“We will go at them, “says McManus. “ I don't want them to get confidence by allowing them to knock the ball around.  If we can pressure them all over the park we should be fine.  WE have some fantastic forwards and I know they will do the job once again this week.  I am sure they are going to mark us tightly but we will do what we can to free up the players who need to be freed up. ‘

The Heat will have one of the WolfPack’s top recruits—Taryn MacDougall of Langley in the nets this weekend.  The Match has a 12:30 pm start time at Hillside Stadium.
