HEAT DROP SEMI FINALS TO CHILLIWACK July 27, 2008 - Larry Read Surrey, BC - The Dream Run is over for the Kamloops Heat U-21 Womens Soccer Team. After finishing second in their first season in the Pacific Coast Soccer League Womens Reserve Division, the Heat made a quick exit from the playoffs. Kamloops lost their semi final 4-1 to the Chilliwack Racing F.C at Cloverdale Athletic Park. "It was a disappointing end to a great 1st season back in the league," stated Heat official David Lloyd afterwards. " Chilliwack came out hard - pressuring the ball very well and creating Kamloops errors." The Girls from the Upper Fraser Valley scored 15 min into the game but Kamloops fought back and tied the game at the 30 min mark. However, Chilliwack kept pressing and although the Kamloops defence limited the quality chances - Chilliwack made the most of the chances they had - scoring again in the 40th, 50th and 55th minutes. On the other end of the field, Kamloops had a number of good quality chances but were unable to finish. The Chilliwack keeper played well. Shannen Meyer, who will anchor the back end of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack this coming fall, scored on a cross from St. Ann's Academy grad Jessie Lebert. With the victory, Chilliwack will advance to the league final. For the Heat, many of them will form a WolfPack team which will play in the August long weekend tournament in Kamloops. That will lead into workouts for the fall campaign, which will open at home September 6 th when Kwantlen University College makes an appearance at Hillside Stadium. Thompson Rivers will host the Canadian College Athletic Association Soccer Championships in early November. |
